Since March 21st both cafes have been closed due to government instructions in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Since then Wild Thing has effectively paused the entire "commercial " side of the business. Deciding to generate no revenue and to furlough all staff. As an ethical business - we put people before profit always. So even though the cafe could continue to trade on a takeaway and delivery basis we felt this was the safest decision to protect all staff and customers. Wild Thing has never just been about profit, as an ethical business we look at the triple bottom line. Profit, environmental & social impacts. So during this time our focus has shifted to primarily focus on the social impact of covid-19 and how as a food business we can best respond. One of our core goals is to fight food poverty and to ensure the accessibility of good food. So we have set up a Covid-19 Emergency Food Provision. This is a project which is completely volunteer led and is completely funded by a Crowdfunder. Therefore it is funded by everyone who donated and was apart of that! It is a project for the community funded by the community. The project delivers twice a week to vulnerable communities. Each delivery provides 3 meals a day for 3 days (so 9 meals in total.) Therefore we are providing 18 meals a week per person! We are currently delivering around 600 meals a week! There is no cost to the service users. We are currently working with Llamau and The Big Issue to deliver to their service users, as well as delivering to any individuals who have reached out requesting the service. Most of the food that we provide is supplied from Fareshare. Who redistribute food waste to tackle food poverty. We then use this food to create delicious & nourishing plant based meals. If you work for an organisation and have service users who would benefit from this service then please email lauren@wildthingcardiff.com. If you would like these free food deliveries yourself or know of someone who would benefit from them then please email lauren@wildthingcardiff.com If you would like to volunteer, we are in particularly looking for driver volunteers , as we are due to expand our services across Newport & The Valleys then please email lauren@wildthingcardiff.com Here's a link to our crowdfunder; if you can donate to fund this project we would be so grateful. If you cant donate then it would be so beneficial if you are able to share.
